“True power is not exercised with shouts or whips, but in subtle details, in acts that seem insignificant but which nullify other beings with impunity.”
Onomatopoeias (The Torment of the Flies)
Onomatopoeias (The Torment of the Flies) is an artistic exploration focused on the rescue and re-signification of obsolete processes and forms, decontextualized from their original function, as a strategy of symbolic resistance against urban and institutional violence. The project is articulated around Taller March, a former craft workshop space in the Carmen neighborhood of València, reactivated as a place for production and active thought. The piece is constructed from manually stretched silver threads that reproduce urban planning layouts and are arranged over overlaid plan prints, evidencing the tension between memory, speculation, and daily life.
The title, inspired by Elias Canetti, alludes to forms of power and subtle violence exerted through almost imperceptible but constant gestures, a metaphor for the physical and psychological wear produced by structures of control. Against this, the project proposes metamorphosis and the reactivation of the latent as a form of resistance, without restoring what has been lost. The onomatopoeias function as acoustic remnants of power, evoking structural violence and the fragility exposed to institutional atrocity. Stemming from a personal and shared experience of structural harassment, and drawing on the thought of Simone Weil, manual and artisanal work is conceived as a form of free thought, a critique of alienation and of production and consumption models that prioritize economic growth at the expense of human and material resources. In this context, the workshop and its tools are transformed into devices of re-existence and the generation of new narratives.
